ethiopian and mienh

cv and i indulged in a wonderful dinner a couple of nights ago at a place down the street, dalo's kitchen. amazing ethiopian curries served on these delicious oversize spongy pancakes called injera. you tear a peice off and grab a handful of delicious meat, lentils, or vegetables with the bread. it is amazing.

today we went to a picnic with my friend, yoon. i work with him at the health clinic. he is a part of a mienh church. the mienh people are from laos, but china originally. they were refugees in the 70s and 80s and immigrated to the west coast. we sang hymns in mienh, listened to a wonderful sermon on Ps. 14:1, and prayed. we played soccer. we ate delicious grilled beef, stewed spicy ground pork, sticky rice, and an amazing hot sauce with cilantro and jalapenos. also a tapioca milk dessert with some candies in it. there were lots of smiling faces there--about 4 generations. i felt blessed to join their family for the day.

this picture is of mienh women in their traditional dress (which they were not wearing in portland unfortunately!)
